My name’s Kat and I’m a Christmas junkie! And yes, I’ll take any excuse to start doing Christmassy things from September! So for the past few weeks, the Connect: South Central Neighbourhoods group have been running a Christmas stall at our local farmer’s market.
We talk a great deal about wanting to ‘Love London’ and be good neighbours who do good in our neighbourhoods. We are blessed to be surrounded by a number of amazing projects that serve people in our area such as Foodbank, Goals to Glory, Refugee Support Network and Christians Against Poverty debt counselling services to name only a few.
Our aim for the Christmas Stall, in the heart of our neighbourhood, is not only to raise funds for some of these great charities but also to meet more of our neighbours in the process. We want to help local people support and learn about local causes whilst doing their Christmas shopping.
On our debut a couple of weeks ago we sold about 60 candles and had fantastic conversations with many punters and other stall traders. We had overwhelmingly positive feedback about what we were doing and how professional our stall looked. We even got told that we were the ‘happy stall’ by one customer!
It has been amazing to see our Connect Group launch into action, utilising their many talents: creativity, administration and charm with punters! It really has been a massive group effort and has also shown how much we can achieve by working together.
If you would like to come along and see it for yourself at any point, we will be outside St Mark’s Church, SE11, opposite Oval tube station each Saturday until Christmas, from 10.00-15.00. Get in the festive spirit and Love London while doing your Christmas shopping!
