Refugee Support Network

London is home to thousands of refugees who have fled conflict zones in Iraq, Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iran and Zimbabwe. Many have suffered horrific exploitation and once in the UK they face months of uncertainty as their cases are investigated.

In partnership with Refugee Support Network we run an educational mentoring scheme in Lambeth, with young refugees referred to us through local colleges and refugee organisations.

This video, originally shown at Love London Sunday, explains a bit about the project and the practical difference it makes in people’s lives.

We are always in need of new mentors to join our team. If you have a heart for nations in conflict and turmoil and a desire to meet the needs of refugees living in our communities, please get in touch with " target="_blank">Hannah Elwyn.

Refugee Support Network

ChristChurch London has begun its mentoring scheme in Lambeth College this month!

Refugee Support Network, a charity which specialises in educational support to young asylum seekers and refugees, are managing us as we start what we hope will be a long lasting project working with these young people in South London.

Najib is really excited that his teacher recently referred him to RSN, who have matched him to a mentor from ChristChurch London. Najib and his mentor will be meeting once a week for an hour in the evening to work on his Maths and English for the next six months.

Amina came to the UK in 2006 on her own from West Africa, when she was just 16 years old. Her journey and first few years of living in London were marred by exploitation and abuse. When she eventually broke free from the abusive relationships which brought her to the UK, she found an organisation for women who had been trafficked which offered her accommodation, rehabilitation and support.

She began studying hard at Lambeth College where she completed a BTEC in Business, achieving two Distinctions and a Merit. Through educational support at RSN, she has now been able to enrol in a university course which will help her to fulfil her dream and ambition of working in the financial sector in the city.

It is such a joy for us at ChristChurch to have begun working with young people such as Najib and Amina, in partnership with RSN. Getting to know them and seeing them succeed in their new lives here in the UK is a true privilege and is really exciting! If you want to be involved through praying for our work with RSN or through educational mentoring, then please get in touch with me at . There are opportunities to mentor young people through colleges in both North West and South East London.
