I remember those last few weeks of summer holiday before heading off to university. They were weeks full of anticipation, expectation and uncertainty for all that the next three years had in store. More than anything, I just couldn’t wait to get started. I had so many questions. What will my halls look like? Will I make great friends? What will my first few days be like? Will I enjoy my subject?
If you’re reading this post in a similar position, preparing to move to London in September, then your wait is almost over!
Firstly, let me congratulate you on your choice of university, for you have chosen to study in the best city in the world.
Secondly, let me encourage you; your time at university in London will probably be one of the richest of your life. And we want to help you make the most of it.
We want to help you settle into London life so you can enjoy all the culture, fun, music, comedy, site seeing, food, parks (etc…) it has to offer. We want to help you thrive at university as you study, make friends and join societies.
But, more than anything, we want to help you grow as a disciple of Jesus.
We think this adventure is best enjoyed when you’re surrounded by friends you love. This is the reason we run a number of mid-week groups called Student Connect Groups that meet right across the city. They are great places to get to know other students, explore the big questions of life and invite others to do the same.
They are somewhere you can discover and grow in your gifts, serve and love the community around you, explore faith deeply and how it makes sense of 21st Century life, and get to know Jesus more and the difference that he makes to our lives and the city in which we live.
Come and visit us on a Sunday at the Mermaid Theatre in Blackfriars to hear more about how you can be part of everything we’ve got going on. (And our plans to expand to four services across the city in January!)
We’re running a whole host of student events across the Autumn Term alongside all the things our Student Connect Groups will organise. You can find more details about those on our calendar.
Whatever you end up doing, I hope you have a wonderful time in London.
I look forward to meeting you soon!
