First Serve

If we are to build a church that contributes to the flourishing of our city, it will require all of us to play our part. In this three-week series, we will think about what the Bible has to say about the heart, the commitment and the mission of a servant.

First Serve: The Mission of a Servant

David Stroud |

Acts 6: The church is growing rapidly, and people’s needs are beginning to get overlooked. The leaders appoint people to serve the church, which results in even more people coming to faith. In this final talk of our series, David looks at the importance of serving in a growing church, and how serving the church has the added effect of benefiting the city around us.

Andy Tilsley |

There are all sorts of reasons why we might not want to serve: concerns about time, resources, or skills. Some of them may be very good reasons, whilst others may be excuses! The book of Haggai opens with a challenging call to rebuild the Temple of God, restoring it to its former glory. In the second week of this series, Andy looks at how our serving builds the church and pleases God.

First Serve: The Heart of a Servant - Matthew 20:20-28

David Stroud |

A mother comes to Jesus with a request, “can my two sons sit either side of you when you enter into your Kingdom?” Jesus’ answer shows that his view of what constitutes power and greatness is vastly different from what one might imagine. In the first week of this new series, David unpacks Jesus’ challenge that ‘whoever wants to become great must become the servant of his brothers.’
